My goal in the first AJGA Open of this summer was to at least finish third to be Fully Exempt if I didn't win.   Unfortunately, a 73 in a tough field was a mediocre start.

Round two to the rescue!  We started on the Back 9 and I birdied Hole 16 to turn the corner at 1-under.  I bogeyed Hole 2 and was again disappointed to give it right back.  I then did something I'd never done before, five straight birdies.  I stiffed  my approach to 3 feet on the Par 5 Hole 3.  I drained a 32-footer on the Par 3 Hole 4.  I sank a 20-footer on Hole 4, a Par 4.  On the difficult Par 3 fifth (bunker left, false front, over-hanging tree limbs right, back no good) I sank a 25 footer.  I made my fifth consecutive birdie on the Par 4 7th hole from 7 feet.

I've made eight birdies in a round before.  I've made four consecutive birdies multiple times, especially when stiffing approach shots.  But I have never made five consecutive birdies before, much less rolling in that many long putts on a course playing over 6000 yards.

I backed up the 67 with a 70 in the final round, which included my only blemish of the tournament, a double bogey on the Par 4 tenth hole.
